My Reasons why Desmond is 108 and Jacob's replacement on Lost: It makes sense that 108 is Desmond. Several reasons. 1. Desmond was the one who prevented the end of the world and so will be the one who will contain MiB (or MiB's potential replacement, if that ends up being the case). Desmond was clearly in a guardian roll. 2. Furthermore, and this may be stretching things, Desmond was the one who brought out Losties to the island, not unlike Jacob. 3. Desmond is, as Eloise put it, different ie the rules don't apply...
